for Gaza? لغزة؟

Last Thursday, 31st of December, activists from the “Gaza Freedom March”  decided to demonstrate in Tahrir Square, downtown Cairo, to protest against Egyptian Government’s decision not to let all of them in Gaza, through the Rafah border checkpoint (this is another subject, and I don’t have sufficient information yet about the reaons behind this decision).  Not taking into account the sensitive spot they were protesting in. Downtown Cairo is a vital area, and when traffic stops there, it affects almost the whole city. Anyone who has been living here for more than a month, would know that…

I’m not against their aim and general purpose. On the contrary, I highly respect it, and I’v expressed this to few of them I met recently in Khan El Khalili. But I’m against their means. Although there are many honest people amongst those kind of groups, I’m sure others don’t have a clue about Gaza nor Palestine, but are just here to have some fun, travel around, and maybe get some media attention.

They should have respected the Egyptian laws, but they didn’t. If a group of Arabs would decide to protest against Israeli brutality this way in an EU country or whatever, I would like to see the police’s reaction over there. They claim that the Egyptian Police used violence with them. I’ve seen videos, and I have to be honest that the police wasn’t very gentle with them. But at the same time, the police did something any police force in the world would have done. They were only using hands, no weapons, sticks, smoke gernades, or even water was used.  The aim was to get them off the streets of the most important square in Cairo.

When the demonstration was on the sidewalk, or was moved later on to the sidewalk (I’m not sure) it was very peaceful and no one touched them. The police just surrounded them, and let them say and do what they wanted.

I’d leave the rest of the post for comments. This is just what I wanted to say: many respect to honest people who are really here to provide support. And for those who are here for other reaons, GO BACK HOME !

يوم الخميس الماضي، قررت مجموعة من الناشطين في حركة الحرية لغزة، التظاهر في ميدان التحرير، ضد قرار الحكومة المصرية بمنع معظمهم من الوصول الى غزة عن طريق معبر رفح. و هو القرار الذي لا املك معلومات كافية عن اسبابه حتى الان. لم يأخذ في هؤلاء الإعتبار مدى حساسية المكان الذي تظاهروا فيه. اي شخص اقام في القاهرة لمدة شهر او حتى اقل يدرك ان تعطيل المرور في هذا المكان يؤدي الى شلل المدينة بالكامل.

انا لست ضد هدف هؤلاء الناس. بل بالعكس فأنا احترمه بشده، و شرحت هذا لبعض ممن قابلتهم في خان الخليلي مؤخرا. و لكني ضد الوسيلة. بالطبع كثيرون منهم جائوا فعلا لنصرة القضية الفلسطينية، و لكن يوجد منهم من لا يدرك دواخل الامور، و لا حتى يعي اي شيء عن فلسطين و العرب…إلخ

كان من الضروري ان يحترموا القوانين المصرية. و لكنهم لم يفعلوا. احب ان ارى رد فعل الشرطة في اي دولة من دول الاتحاد الاوروبي اذا قرر مجموعة من العرب التظاهر بهذا الشكل ضد الممارسات الاسرائيلية الوحشية.  يدعون ان الشرطة المصرية استخدمت العنف. اعترف ان الشرطة لم تكن رقيقة معهم، و لكن لم يتم استخداد غير الايادي. فلا عصيان، و لا قنابل مسيلة للدموع و لا حتى ماء. كان هدف الشرطة هو ابعادهم من منتصف الطريق، الطريق في اهم ميدان في القاهرة.

عندما بدأت المظاهرة على الرصيف، او تم نقلها بعض ذلك (غير متأكد من هذا) كانت سلمية، و احاطتهم الشرطة و سمحت لهم بقول و فعل ما يريدون.

اريد ان اترك باقي المقال مفتوح للتعليقات. و اريد ان اقول للشرفاء انني أوؤيدكم و احترمكم. و للذين هنا لأسباب اخرى اقول: ارجعوا الى بيوتكم !
