With all sympathy and sorrow, I present my deepest condolences to the martyrs of a hideous crime, which was carried out by three ignorant haters to the motherland, Egypt. A crime which killed the Christmas joy of our Christian brothers and sisters.
On that day, I was in the city of Fayoum with some foreign friends, hosted by my dear friend’s family, Mina, to celebrate Christmas in church, and have a family dinner with them. To me, it was a new and exciting experience, only to be stopped with such a horrible crime.
His family (which consists of: his parents, sister and her husband and baby daughter, his aunt and her husband and their two children) has met us with warm welcoming and the usual Egyptian family’s hospitality, although we all had different religions and sects. This was the first time in my life I share Christmas joy with an Egyptian Christian family, and the moment I entered their house, I felt warm love and respect from people I have never met before. So, after having tea and cake, and chatting for while, we headed for a quick tour around Fayoum, and then the moment I’ve been thinking about the whole week before the trip; the moment of entering the monastery, and attending the service. No one stopped us while entering the, which was filled with people from all over Egypt. The service was being carried out, with such beautiful hums. And two important notices; number one: it’s my first time in a church in Egypt. Number two, although I’m a Muslim, the moment I entered the place, I felt the sacredness of it.
Afterwards, and while we were going around the monastery, taking some pictures, a man stopped us (I later knew he was one of the church servants and head of security). He asked us where we were from, and why we’re here. And when my turn came, I told him my name was Mohamed. He recognized my family, since we had roots in Fayoum. Turns out he knew Mina’s family, so he talked with us for a while, and wished us a Merry Christmas. Then we went back home for the family dinner, and boy that was delicious! We kept talking with one another, in different topics, in an atmosphere full of joy and love.
This was a summary of a day I would never forget. A day in which the boundaries of religion disappeared, with the feelings of joint country and joy being strongly present. Although on this same day, the ignorants have committed a crime God shall never forgive them for. For the killing of innocent lives is forbidden by God, and our Prophet Mohamed (peace & prayers be upon him) has ordered us to treat the other with respect, especially the People of the Book. And this is one of the basics of Islam. In my opinion, those murderers should be hanged live on TV, so they would be an example for everyone.
And finally, I would like to remind that “Religion is for God, Nation is for All”. May Egypt live, for her sons, with her sons united and loving…
